UNS Hosts MDGB PTNBH Meeting

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted the prestigious meeting of the Professors Council (Majelis Dewan Guru Besar, or MDGB) of Legal Entity State Universities (PTNBH). The event was officially opened by UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., on Thursday (7/11/2024) evening at the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower Ballroom, UNS.

The meeting “The Role of Professors in Preparing a Superior Generation for Indonesia Emas 2045” gathered representatives from 17 of 24 Professors Councils (Dewan Profesor, or DP) of PTNBH universities across Indonesia. Chairman of the UNS Professors Council, Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D., extended a warm welcome to the distinguished delegates and expressed gratitude for their participation. He highlighted the meeting as a valuable opportunity to discuss key issues, including the newly implemented Ministerial Regulation Number 44 of 2024 on Lecturer Profession, Career, and Income (Permendikbudristek).

Prof. Suranto noted a significant change brought by the regulation, where the appointment of professors is now under the authority of universities. “This is our responsibility. We bear a great duty in nurturing future professors. I urge all of us to reflect on whether we are prepared for morality, ethics, and propriety. Let us contribute our best efforts to advance education in Indonesia, particularly concerning our role in developing professors,” Prof. Suranto said.

The Chairman of the MDGB PTNBH, Prof. Dr. Andi Pengerang Moenta, S.H., M.H., DFM., highlighted critical topics that deserved focus during this meeting. He emphasized the essential role of the Professors Council as a moral and intellectual authority within universities, shaping and maintaining academic quality, scientific integrity, and institutional character. Prof. Andi stressed that the council’s responsibilities extend beyond upholding academic standards; they also involve driving scientific innovation to address contemporary challenges. He regarded Ministerial Regulation Number 44 of 2024 as a transformative policy for university governance, particularly in the areas of academic policy and organizational structure.

The MDGB PTNBH meeting was officially inaugurated by Prof. Hartono, who, in his opening address, underscored the strategic importance of this gathering. He emphasized that it serves not merely as a platform for exchanging ideas but as a critical moment to reflect on the central role of professors in navigating global challenges and the evolving dynamics of the times. He stated that the theme of the meeting is both timely and essential. “As we aim to realize a golden generation for Indonesia by 2045 and beyond, we must focus on several key aspects, including enhancing educational and research quality, fostering character and leadership development, and contributing to national policy,” Prof. Hartono noted.

The three-day event, running until Saturday (9/11/2024), includes a series of activities. On the second day, the professors will hold leadership meetings and commission sessions, with each commission presenting its findings in a plenary session. The event will also feature a cultural performance, the Wayang Orang play titled “Gatutkaca Winisudha,” at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium, UNS, on Friday evening, November 8. The final day will conclude with a visit to the Manusia Purba Sangiran Museum in Sragen, Central Java, offering an opportunity for the delegates to explore local heritage and history.
