UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta establish a shelter for its academic members who tested positive for Covid-19. The shelter is located behind the UNS Hospital.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, during an online press conference, Tuesday (21/7/2020), states that the shelter named Medical Education Research Centre (MER-C) has a capacity of 60 beds.
“The number of Covid-19 positive patients in the Solo region is increasing lately. Therefore, we from UNS prepare a shelter. This shelter is intended to treat the academic members who are Covid-19 positive with no symptoms,” explains Prof. Jamal.
Prof. Jamal adds that on July 11th and 12th, UNS Hospital received 25 Covid-19 positive patients from Dr. Moewardi Hospital consisting of residents, specialists, and administrative staff to undergo isolation at UNS Hospital.
“This morning, we received info from UNS Hospital that until now there are 72 inpatients, consisted of 67 Covid-19 positives and 5 patients are still waiting for the swab test result. Because there are quite a lot of patients, they are placed in the special ward for Covid-19, which is located on the 5th and 7th floors with a capacity of 80 beds.
UNS Hospital applies Covid-19 prevention measures strictly. We appeal to the wider community, especially those in the Solo and surrounding areas to be disciplined and carry out preventive actions by keeping distance, wearing a mask, and washing hands often with soap, because the Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet,” Prof. Jamal added.
Meanwhile, the Director of UNS Hospital, Prof. Hartono adding that there is a significant increase in Covid-19 positive case for the last fortnight. “Our lab checks increased. We urge the Regional Governments in the former Surakarta Residency to make strict policies related to Physical Distancing, wear a mask, because many people still do not understand. Many have not maintained physical distancing and wearing masks, so the local government needs to make strict rules,” Prof. Hartono explains. Further, he appeals that if it’s not important, there’s no need to leave the house.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS, Prof. Reviono, reminds us that even though it is our neighbor or relatives, they are expected to keep wearing masks and protect their immunity. “Do not think that just because it is our neighbor, colleagues, or friends, then we can chat freely without a mask. Because we never know if they are contracted with COvid-19 or not. A mask when wore by a healthy person can only protect us for around 5%, if it is worn by the sick person it reaches 50% safety, and if both are wearing than it can prevent transmission for 75% and it is effective,” Prof. Reviono explains.
At the end of the press conference, Prof. Jamal added that UNS also prepare a residence for Covid-19 patients from the UNS academic members who have been cured. “Those who have been declared ‘cured’ are free, if they wish to go home they are allowed. However, if there is a less conducive condition, UNS prepares rooms in UNS Inn. There are quite a lot of rooms available because the occupancy rate during the pandemic is also not high,” concludes Prof. Jamal. Humas UNS
