UNS — Student from Medicine Education Program Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won UNY English Competition (Uneshco) #5 last August. Under the supervision from Wuji Anggraini, S.S., M.Pd., Maryam Yasmin won the first place in the prestigious competition. The competition was conducted online, in the preliminary round, participants were requested to record video speech and uploaded it to Google Drive. The link to the Google Drive was then sent to the managing committee. The final round was held through Zoom Meeting application.
Yasmin stated that she is happy and grateful to reach the achievement because in two previous competitions she has to be satisfied in with semi-final and final round, which made her pessimistic with Unescho competition. “I am very grateful, Alhamdulillah, maybe this is a gift from Allah in this competition. I am very grateful for my win in this competition,” Yasmin stated when contacted by uns.ac.id on Monday (7/9/2020).
At the final round that consists of two stages, Yasmin delivered a speech on two themes. The first round took the theme of bullying, Yasmin delivered a speech that invited the community in general and school in particular to build a supportive learning environment. For example, using counselling teacher as a student facilitator and consultant. The theme for the second round is the racism issue amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Yasmin’s speech raised the issues of racism toward Chinese ethnic in Indonesia. In the future, the student who also active in Student English Forum (SEF) UNS hopes that her speech skill will improve and she can bring proud name for UNS. Humas UNS
