UNS – Behind the distribution of more than 1,000 face shields to various hospitals and Puskesmas by the Architectural Engineering Study Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) since last April 2020, there are ten students of this study program from the class 2017 who contribute to the production. One of them is Airla Prasetudia Hanugrapasca.
Initiated by the Lecturers of Architectural Engineering Study Program to start a ‘UNS Arsi PPE Care’, Airla and her fellow students implement the initiative into the Student Community Service Program (KKN) COVID-19 starting on May 1st – June 5th, 2020. Every Monday to Friday, they spent around 7 hours in Building 2, Architectural Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS, to produce face shields. “Thus, it can be said that this KKN is carried out in a team that consists of Architectural Students living in Surakarta,” explains Arlia to uns.ac.id, Tuesday (7/7/2020).
Airla adds that the program is carried out due to the concern on the lack of the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the medical team handling COVID-19 patients. Mainly in the Surakarta region and its surroundings. When asked regarding obstacle, Airla mentioned that when the initial stock of face shield material was depleted, the team had difficulty finding similar material. Therefore, they need to re-design a replacement material that matches the comfort of the face shield, this happened because many others started to produce similar PPE.
“We need to re-design the face shield for several times to customize the face shield to the user’s comfort. But beyond that all our activities can be carried out in accordance with the specified objectives,” Airla says.
In the midst of production process, a distribution coordination, video tutorial filming and program after movie is held simultaneously. As mentioned previously this team has distributed more than 1,000 face shields from the total of 1,800 face shields. Several institutions received the face shields are RSIA Dian Pertiwi Karanganyar, Puskesmas Baturetno Wonogiri, RSUD Karanganyar, RS Koestati, Rejosari Husada Klaten, UNS Medical Center, RS Ibnu Sina Sragen, Dokter muda Fakultas Kedokteran UNS, RS Asyfa Sambi, RSU Islam Cawas Klaten, Klinik IDI Surakarta, PPDS RSD Moewardi, PKFI Karanganyar, UPTD Puskesmas Mangunjaya Bekasi, RSUD Soedjati Grobogan, Puskesmas Senori Tuban, dan UPTD Puskemas Wonogiri I.
Beside Airla, the students KKN COVID-19 involved in this program are Ahmad Faizuddin, Anisa Heryuntia A, Anisa Vira S, Christian Nathanael, Destiani Nursabrina, Dewi Widowati P, Ilham Riski H, M Aditya Rivaldi, Syifa Pradnya K, with different supervisors.
At the end of the interview, the student under the supervision of Bono Winarno, M.Kom, hopes that PPE production in UNS Architectural Studio is not limited to face shield, but can also improve and be more innovative. Humas UNS
