UNS — The President Director of PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) (Indonesian Railway Company), Didiek Hartantyo, shared the experience on the method to instill integrity to KAI employees in Future Economic Leader Training (FELT) on “The Preparation of the Young Generation in Facing Future Economy”, Sunday (4/10/2020).
In front of 189 students of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta who participated in FELT online through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Didiek Hartantyo stated that integrity is the key of PT. KAI to transform into a leading State-Owned Enterprise (SOE). “The journey of a corporation is a long story. Even Kereta Api Indonesia is included in the living legend of SOE in Indonesia compared to other SOEs,” Didiek Hartantyo stated.
Didiek Hartantyo who is an alumnus of FEB UNS conveyed that since 1964 PT. KAI continues to adapt to the current development. This is proved by the positive image of the railway company which is now perceived as a safe, comfortable, and friendly means of transportation for the community. Even though in the past, the railway was considered as a poor means of transportation due to the stowaways who ride on top of train carriages, the large numbers of hawker inside the carriages, and dirty stations.
This success, according to Didiek Hartyanto is the result of consistent implementation of corporate culture that emphasizes morals inculcation to railway employees. Didiek Hartyanto stated that railway employees should prioritize moral and integrity to ensure that PT. KAI provides heartfelt services and meet people expectation. “So, when I went to the field, I also check railway employees, whether they memorize and understand about the morals,” Didiek Hartyanto continued.
Didiek Hartyanto explained that inculcating moral should be started from massive dissemination of corporate values to employees. In this context, consistent and persistent implementation of corporate culture is needed to support this process. As the most important person in PT. KAI, Didiek Hartyanto, continue to remind railway employees to maintain the trust granted by the people by maintaining competence, willingness to learn, willingness to improve capability, harmony, concern, and respect diversity. He also stated that to maintain PT. KAI positive image as SOE with integrity can be achieved by taking firm action against those who accept/ask for bribes and illegal levies (Pungli).
“By memorizing (the corporate values) it can be instilled and implemented. And, the corporate values can be implemented everywhere, among railway employees, the community, or with families. Because corporate culture will determine employees’ behavior,” he concluded. Humas UNS
