UNS — The Career Development Center (CDC) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online workshop on “Common Perception and Training for Academic Assistance based on Information Technology”. The workshop invited 30 academic and career assistance from 11 faculties in the UNS Vocational School and UNS Students Counseling Affairs.
Opening the workshop, the Chief of CDC UNS, Dr. Ir. Kusnandar, M.Si., stated that the workshop is a new effort in responding to the current Covid-19 pandemic. “CDC will design new patterns and programs to adjust with the current condition to find a common perception in building counseling services in UNS,” he stated on Thursday (20/5/2021).
Three speakers attended the event from the Center for Counselling services, Universitas Sanata Dharma (USD) Yogyakarta. The three speakers are Brigitta Erlita Tri Angga dewi, M.Psi., Br. Yohanes Sarju, SJ., M.M., and Dr. Yohannes Heri Widodo, M.Psi. The Coordinator for CDC UNS IT Division and faculty member of Informatics Program FMIPA, Haryono Setiadi, ST., M.Eng., also attended the workshop. The workshop was led by Afia Fitriani, S.Psi., M.Psi., as the moderator. The workshop participants were enthusiastic about the material from the speakers who shared their process and experience as student counseling since 2018.
Brigitta Erlita Tri Anggadewi, M.Psi., shared the procedures in conducting tele-counseling. She emphasized the importance of clients providing active telephone numbers from their closest people (physically), who could be their friends, siblings, parents, who understand students’ problems and are comfortable with them. “This number is used to contact when there is an urgent matter that requires special treatment during the tele-counseling process,” she explained.
The second speaker, Br. Yohanes Sarju, M.M., emphasized the importance of becoming parents for all students. A counselor should put their counseling service first, and counseling procedure needs continuous development. This statement was supported by Dr. Yohannes Heri Widodo, M.Psi., who added that being a counselor is what heart calls, and life will be more meaningful when someone sees other’s perspectives and experiences. Collaboration with the counselor and psychologist near the client is also vital for clients with serious issues. “It is detected in the early assessment,” Dr. Heri said
Haryono Setiadi, ST., M.Eng, shared CDC UNS current effort in developing counseling scheduling app and training and assistance planned on the 3rd week of June 2021. The workshop led by Dr. Ribut Purwaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd., provided key points as guideline or reference for UNS student counseling, especially amid the pandemic that limit physical meeting and mobility. This includes the TOT for a counselor with educational backgrounds besides counseling education or psychology as there is a standard in providing counseling. Humas UNS
