UNS— A total of 1.403 participants are set to take part in the national-level running event organized by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. The event, named UNS Ultra 2024, will be held over two days from August 9 to 11, 2024.
In a press conference held at the Ki Hadjar Dewantara UNS Tower on Thursday (1/8/2024), Event Director of UNS Ultra, Adi Dwi Ismanto, announced that there will be four categories for participants: 50 Km Individual, 50 Km Relay 2, 5 Km, and Kids Dash with a distance of 1.5 Km.
In addition to the running competition, the event will feature the UNS Running Expo. The expo will include activities such as race pack collection, sports and health education, a sport running exhibition, a product bazaar, and entertainment.
“The UNS Running Expo will take place over two days, on August 9 and 10, at the UNS Rectorate Building courtyard. The 50 Km Individual and 50 Km Relay 2 categories will be held on Saturday (10/8/2024) with a flag-off at 6:00 AM. The 5 Km and Kids Dash categories will take place on Sunday (11/8/2024) with flag-offs at 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM respectively,” Adi explained.
The goal of UNS Ultra is to invite all participants to enjoy the green and eco-friendly UNS campus. The event offers a cool and shaded route for running. “The UNS Ultra route is within the campus area, passing through every faculty. The route will be designed to be free of motor vehicles to ensure participants’ safety and security,” he added.
UNS Ultra is also part of UNS’s Green Campus program. Running serves as a medium to raise collective awareness by connecting people with nature on campus. High enthusiasm for running on campus can foster environmentally conscious habits among the academic community.
“The registration response has been overwhelming. Initially, our target was 800 participants for all categories. However, registrations exceeded our expectations, and we closed with a total of 1.403 participants for UNS Ultra,” Adi said.
Participants in UNS Ultra are not limited to the UNS community but are also open to the general public. Some participants come from outside Java Island and even from abroad. “For the Kids Dash category, participants must be between 5 and 12 years old. For the 5 Km, 50 Km Individual, and 50 Km Relay 2 categories, participants must be at least 17 years old. When collecting race packs, participants must present a health certificate from a doctor, issued no more than a week before the race. Race pack collection for the 50 Km Individual and 50 Km Relay 2 categories will be on Friday (9/8/2024), while for the 5 Km and Kids Dash categories, it will be on Saturday (10/8/2024),” Adi added.
Meanwhile, Iwan Wisnu Anggono, S.S., M.Si., Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau at UNS, expressed his appreciation for the UNS Ultra 2024 event. “UNS encourages the academic community and the general public to maintain a healthy lifestyle, one of which is by exercising on campus. We hope this national-level running event goes smoothly. We also extend our thanks to our sponsors, including Bank Jateng, for their support,” Iwan said.
