Enhancing Leadership Competence: UNS Mechanical Engineering Lecturer Attends Bootcamp at Coventry University, UK

UNS – Prof. Dr. Joko Triyono, S.T., M.T., a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, participated in the International Visionary Management Bootcamp for Vocational University Leaders at Coventry University, UK. The training took place over three weeks, from November 24 to December 14, 2024, and involved 22 vocational university leaders under the Directorate of Vocational Education.

The program offered various modules designed to enhance leadership and visionary management skills. Topics covered included Thought Leadership (encompassing Goal Setting, Centers of Excellence, Root Cause Analysis, Applied Research, and Entrepreneurial University), Customer Value Proposition Workshop, Business Model Workshop, and Transition Management Workshop. “The learning process was further enriched by group discussions that deepened understanding and facilitated idea collaboration among participants,” Prof. Joko Triyono explained, as cited by ft.uns.ac.id on Friday (3/1/2025).

The boot camp activities extended beyond the classroom. Participants visited Coventry University‘s state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced laboratories, research centers, and the Techno Park. This Teaching Factory showcased various collaborative projects between the university and industry, demonstrating how such partnerships strengthen institutional ties while generating additional revenue for the university.

Adding to the enriching experience, participants visited prominent companies partnered with Coventry University, such as Morgan Motor Company, Triumph Motorcycle, and Cadbury. These visits provided firsthand insights into the implementation of strategic university-industry partnerships. Additionally, a cultural visit to Warwick Castle offered participants an appreciation of Coventry’s rich history and cultural heritage.

The program concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony led by Prof. Benny Tjahjono, a representative of Coventry University. During the closing event, Prof. Joko Triyono joined fellow participants for a group photo in front of Coventry University‘s iconic library building.

With the knowledge and experiences gained, Prof. Joko Triyono returns to UNS inspired to strengthen education at the Faculty of Engineering. He is committed to applying these learnings to support the development of vocational education that prioritizes innovation and global collaboration.
