UNS — The students from the Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won three achievements in Universitas Airlangga’s Annual International Moot Court Competition (Internation) 2020 held by Internasional Law Student Association (ILSA) Chapter Universitas Airlangga. The three achievements are the Champion of Internation 2020, Best Oral Presentation and Best Legal Memoranda.
The three achievements were obtained by Andhika Hananta Rizqy (FH 2018) and Teresia Yokia Novianti (FH 2019). Both are the members of International Law Community (ILC) FH UNS. According to the explanation from Andhika on Monday (28/9/2020), on the competition, the UNS Team was accompanied by a trainer, Najla Nur Fauziyah (FH 2018).
The competition that was held in June 2020 was joined by various universities in Indonesia such as Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) and others. At the final round, UNS met with the team from Unpad. Andhika stated that during the announcement they were surprised because, in the final round, they found it difficult to face the team from Bandung. This is because FH Unpad is the pioneer of the International Law Program in Indonesia.
“Hopefully our achievement can inspire other students, especially from FH UNS to not be insecure in participating in international competitions,” Andhika added.
The competition held in the pandemic makes him and his team be challenged because legal argument filing which is usually performed directly now must be conducted through call-group. as the result, miscommunication often takes place between group members and with the trainer when delivering the idea.
The virtual competition is also considered as a new thing that needs an adjustment. The ups and downs of competitions amid the pandemic is shared by Andhika. Initially, UNS Team thought that everything will run as usual. However, the implementation of this competition online took 8 hours in 4 rounds and sitting in front of the screen which made them learn to pay attention to their health before competing.
According to Andhika, International Moot Court Competition (IMCC) is interesting to be participated in because of the level of competition and its ability to encourage students, especially from FH to develop creative legal argumentation. Besides, this kind of competition also provides an opportunity for students to meet experts such as lawyers in Indonesia. Humas UNS
