UNS — Two study programs within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully achieved international accreditation from the Agency for Quality Assurance by Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS). The international accreditation body based in Germany granted accreditation to the Communication Science Program and Sociology Program at FISIP UNS during the AQAS Standing Commission meeting on February 26, 2024.
The Dean of FISIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Si., stated that the issuance of AQAS accreditation certificates provides both programs at FISIP UNS with internationally accredited status valid until March 31, 2030. This accreditation adds to the number of internationally accredited programs at FISIP UNS, following the previous accreditation received by the Public Administration Program from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).
“As a result, 75 percent of all undergraduate programs at FISIP UNS have now obtained international accreditation,” Prof. Ismi explained on Wednesday (March 13, 2024).
During the assessment process, AQAS expert teams used seven criteria representing the quality of higher education provision. These criteria include curriculum, quality assurance, learning and assessment processes, student management, faculty quality, infrastructure, and information systems. “With the AQAS accreditation, it means that the Communication Science and Sociology Programs at FISIP UNS have been assessed to meet international standards based on these criteria,” Prof. Ismi added.
The process of obtaining international accreditation is part of UNS’s efforts to become a world-class university. It also aims to fulfill one of the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), namely the percentage of programs accredited internationally.
