UNS — The Technical Team from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia provided socialization regarding the UNS Board of Trustees (Majelis Wali Amanat, or MWA) Regulation No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Procedures for the Appointment and Dismissal of MWA Members. The socialization was held offline at the G. P. H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium on Monday (8/1/2024).
The Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of Kemendikbudristek RI, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC., Ph.D., as the Chairman of the Technical Team of Kemdikbudristek RI, explained UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Procedures for the Appointment and Dismissal of MWA Members. The regulation was presented to the UNS academic community, including the Rector and Vice Rector, Professor Council, Academic Senate (SA), Deans and Vice Deans, Faculty Academic Senates, representatives of lecturers, coordinators, sub-coordinators, representatives of student organizations (Ormawa), and alumni.
On this occasion, Prof. Nizam expressed his highest appreciation to the entire UNS academic community, which has undergone a transformation for over a year to reorganize UNS as a leading research university (PTNBH) with the expectation of better and healthier governance. “During this time, the position of MWA was pulled into the ministry by the Minister of Education and Culture, assisted by the technical team. Alhamdulillah, the SA UNS has been formed as the initial step to organize UNS in the future. Then prepare for the formation of MWA,” Prof. Nizam explained.
Prof. Nizam explained the procedures for the appointment and dismissal of MWA members from Article 1 to Article 37 outlined in UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023. “In this regulation, Article 2 states that the MWA members amount to 17 people, consisting of the Minister, Rector, Chair of SA, 4 representatives from the community, 7 representatives from SA, 1 representative from alumni, 1 representative from educational staff, and 1 representative from students,” Prof. Nizam added.
In addition to regulating the number of members, the regulation also stipulates the MWA Member Election Committee, the requirements to become an MWA member, the procedures for registering prospective MWA members, the procedures for the election of prospective MWA members, the proposal and appointment of MWA members, and the dismissal of MWA members.
“Why do we issue this regulation? UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023 is important to move forward. The main consideration for this regulation is based on the UNS statute PP and also refers to Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 24 of 2023 concerning the Arrangement of Internal Regulations and Organizations in the UNS environment. The issuance of the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation in 2023 is solely for the interests of UNS, for our common interests, and to build good governance at UNS to embrace all its citizens. Because the basic principle of UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023 is not only to be prepared participatorily but also to ensure that the formation of MWA is as democratic as possible. We involve all components at UNS,” Prof. Nizam added.
UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., welcomed Prof. Nizam and the Technical Team from Kemendikbudristek to UNS. “After waiting for so long, finally the certainty about the election of UNS MWA membership is answered with the issuance of UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Procedures for the Appointment and Dismissal of MWA Members. On behalf of myself and the UNS leadership, on this auspicious occasion, we express our gratitude and high appreciation to the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Director General of Diktiristek, along with the Technical Team who, in the midst of their busyness, have devoted all their energy, time, and thoughts to complete all the arrangements for regulations and institutions at UNS,” Prof. Jamal said.
The socialization of UNS MWA Regulation No. 1 of 2023 is crucial. Because it can provide insight, clarity, perception, and understanding that are the same for all UNS leaders, academic communities, and alumni, there will be no mistakes in its implementation.
“On this auspicious occasion, I would like to invite all leaders, academic communities, and the central management of the UNS Alumni Family Association (IKA) to oversee and succeed in the election of UNS MWA members for the next 5-year term by ensuring that the stages of the election process are carried out with a focus on the principles of accountability, objectivity, and transparency,” Prof. Jamal said.
