UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Students under a Student Creativity Program in Community Engagement (PKM-M) lanched the Elderly-Friendly Village Program (Kacila) to the member of Elderly Family Movement (BKL) to establish an Elderly-Friendly environment in RW 20 Jebres, Saturday (31/10/2020). The team consists of Catur Mujiono, Asih Duwi Mawartini, Arika Anisa Sholihah, Faiza Nur Arofah, Aidah Fitriana, and Vera Yuliati.
Catur Mujiono states that RW 20 is chosen because of the number of elderly resides in that neighborhood. Aiming for the BKL in the neighborhood, the team wished that the residents of RW 20 can have the knowledge and skills needed to care for the elderly. The program itself is synchronized with the Program Siaga Masyarakat untuk Kesejahteraan Lansia (Simaster Lansia-Community Awareness of Elderly Welfare), initiated by the Head of Jebres sub-District, Sulistyorini.
“The dissemination program is started at 09.00 to 11.00 AM, at the RW 20 Auditorium, while adhering to the health protocol. The event was attended by 18 BKL members, the Head of RW 20 Jebres, PKM-M team, Head of BKL Trainer, and Jebres Sub-District Head,” Catur explains, Thursday (12/11/2020). He added that the objective of this activity is to disseminate the role of BKL members.
In this community engagement activity, the PKM-M Team provides a module on Elderly Care entitled ‘Toward a Tough Elderly-Generation, It’s Time for BKL to Take Role’. The module is expected to help BKL members in understanding their role and function in the community.
At the end of the activity, the members are involved in training and practicing how to check blood pressure. The UNS PKM-M Team also provides a tutorial video on blood pressure checking and elderly gymnastics. The Head of Jebres Sub-District, Sulistyorini, appreciates the program because there is a young generation, who care and can take an active role in achieving Elderly prosperity. Moreover, Teti Tarumiati as the Head of BKL, hopes that this program can bring a positive impact and improving the BKL members’ knowledge and skill in achieving an Elderly-Friendly environment in RW 20 Jebres.
