UNS — The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held graphic design training under the theme Bring Your Creativity with Graphic on Saturday (29/8/2020) through Google Meet application. Inviting Bella Arti Rosalia as a speaker, this online training focused on the use of Canva application as design software.
Opening the material, Bella, the CO-Coormultimedia Solo Medical Cup and Media Producer “Bismillah Official”, explained the differences between graphic design and non-graphic design. Graphic arts are two-dimensional pictures that include several activities such as drawing, painting, and photography. Graphic design related to the art to affect, inform, and channelled emotion through pictures. Understanding information by reading to the end at one take will be different from understanding the information delivered through separated stages. This is the difference between graphic design and non-design graphic perspectives.
Bella then explained the components that need to be understood before start designing. First, the designer must understand the objectives to determine the type of design. Secondly, the target of the design and the base of developing a design, for example, a poster for adult does not require rich coloring and pictorials. Third, the characters to maintain originality and avoid plagiarism.
Canva is selected to be learned because of its features such as template, pictures, gift, and video. The application is web-based; thus, the user is not required to install the application. Design result in the application can be easily transferred to png, jpg, pdf, mp4, and gif. However, this application is not without shortcomings. Canva has limited icons, requires internet connection and data, and does not facilitate export to cdr and psd format.
Bella mentioned that design from Canva can be redesigned from the template which is easier and faster. She closed her session by asking the audience to free themselves in creating and do not limit their creativity. Humas UNS
