UNS – The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of the Surakarta City Government. The signing took place in the Leaders Meeting Room, Ir. RPM. Kasifudin Building, FT UNS, on Monday (10/14/2024). This agreement focuses on planning regional facilities and infrastructure, as well as research and development initiatives for Surakarta.
This partnership follows a previous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNS and the Surakarta City Government, MoU Number 019.5/2069.1 and 103/UN27/KS/2021, signed on July 1, 2021, which focused on implementing the Tridharma of Higher Education. Consolidation meetings had been held since August 2024 between the cooperation team of UNS and the Surakarta City Government.
In his remarks, the Dean of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si., IPU, emphasized that this collaboration represents a critical step toward supporting Surakarta’s vision of becoming a modern, resilient, agile, creative, and prosperous cultural city. “We believe that through research and collaboration, FT UNS can make a significant contribution to the planning and development processes of Surakarta on the path toward Golden Indonesia 2045,” Prof. Wahyudi stated.
The collaboration involves the UNS Research Development Team from the Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) Program, which includes Dr. Ir. Nur Miladan, S.T., M.T.; Prof. Ir. Winny Astuti, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Dr. Ir. Murtanti Jani Rahayu, S.T., M.T.; and Dr. Bambang S. Pujantiyo, B.Eng., M.Eng.
As an initial step, a research collaboration on transportation, titled “Revitalization of Public Transport to Support Tourism in Solo City,” has been completed. Dr. Bambang S. Pujantiyo, B.Eng., M.Eng., was the project’s expert. The research outcomes have been reported to the city government leaders for further action.
BRIDA Surakarta is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, impactful innovation. Beyond research and trials, BRIDA supports the downstream commercialization of innovations into industrial products. This step aims to solidify Surakarta as an innovation hub capable of providing practical solutions for the broader community. In 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs recognized Surakarta as a Highly Innovative City based on the Regional Innovation Index (IID), a distinction that BRIDA aims to uphold in the future.
BRIDA not only encourages the development of innovations but also ensures their practical application in industry. With the support of universities and cross-sectoral collaboration, BRIDA is confident that Surakarta will become an increasingly resilient and innovative city.
With its expertise, FT UNS is committed to ongoing contributions to the research and development of Surakarta. “We hope that this PKS will continue to have a positive impact on the Surakarta Government and its community,” Prof. Wahyudi added. HUMAS UNS
