UNS — Bengawan Unmanned Vehicle (UV) Team Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta brought another proud achievement in the prestigious National Unmanned Speed Boat Contest (Kontes Kapal Cepat Tak Berawak Nasional – KKCTBN) of 2020. The Team successfully brought home seven awards in the competition. The theme of this year contest was a boat for Covid-19 handling and was held in Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM)on Thursday-Saturday (5-7/11/2020).
The General Manager of Bengawan UV UNS, Annas Isman Saputro stated that in KKCTBN, Bengawan UV UNS successfully brought home seven medals for 1st position in Fun Race Electric, 2nd position in Autonomous Poster, Best Prototype for Autonomous Boat, Best Design for Autonomous Boat, 1st position in Electric ERC Performance, Best Design for Gasoline boat, and 1st position for FERC Gasoline Boat Performance. “KKCTBN itself is an annual agenda at the national level held by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) RI,” Annas explained, Tuesday (10/11/2020). On this occasion, Bengawan UV sent three teams for prototype category, Antares BUV for Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) sub-category, Maheswari Udadi for Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC) category and El-Moana for Electric Remote Control (ERC) sub-category.
In total, there were 30 teams competed in each category in the initial selection process. Five teams from each sub-category were selected to enter the final rounds. In the final rounds, only teams from three universities succeeded, one of which is UNS represented by Bengawan UV Team. “It was a great achievement because all teams from UNS came out as a winner and received the award,” Annas added.
The team spent four months to prepare their works. Annas admitted that they faced challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The timeframe itself was a challenge for them because they only own a few numbers of components and when these components broke it will add into the challenges they need to face. Funding is another challenge they need to solve because their funding comes from research fund of which one research grant must be divided for the development of three works. The pandemic only makes it worse because it is harder for them to find a sponsor.
However, despite all the challenges and difficulties their team has successfully proved that they can win over their problems. Annas reminded his fellows to continue working until they obtained a good result. “This is a sweet gift for UNS towards the end of 2020,” Annas concluded. Humas UNS
