UNS — Another proud achievement was obtained by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students in Lomba Action Plan Proposal Bakti Desa Nasional 2020 (National Action Plan for Village Competition) held by BEM KM FKM Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri). In the competition held on Sunday (27/9/2020), UNS students successfully won the 1st position. The competition was held online through Zoom Cloud Meeting and joined by three UNS students from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Prisca Puspita Sari, Uswatun Hasanah, and Whienanda Surya Hapsari from Agricultural Extension & Communication (PKP) Program who are the members of Scientific Study Group (Kelompok Studi Ilmiah – KSI) FP UNS.
Under the supervision of Gani Cahyo Handoyo, S.P., M.Si. as the Faculty Member of FP UNS, they submitted a study on ‘Gempita (Gerakan Ibu Rumah Tangga Peduli Limbah Pertanian) (Housewives Movement for Agricultural Waste Utilization): Empowering Housewives through the Utilization of Coconut Husks as Media to Grow Innovative Kokedama based on Agro-socio-preneurship to support Creative Industry Amid the Pandemic’. They initiate the utilization of coconut husk and rubber seeds as a media to grow innovative Kokedama.
“The number of agricultural wastes in the form of coconut husk and rubber seeds in Rengas 1 Village, Payaraman Sub-District, Ogan Ilir District, it is unfortunate if these wastes are not fully utilized. Thus, we promoted a program to empower Rengas I villagers to by utilizing the potential coconut husk wastes and rubber seeds as a media to grow innovative Kokedama,” Prisca explained in an interview with uns.ac.id team.
They stated that pandemic does not discourage them from participating in the competition. They cannot prepare the action plan in a face to face meeting, therefore discussions were held through WhatsApp and sometimes phone signal stepped in and held them back. However, this brought a spirit to prove that the pandemic does not stop them from creating works. In the future, Prisca and her team want that their program can bring benefits for Rengas I village.
